The Born This Way Foundation’s Purpose Will Be Revealed in February

Posted on 19th January, 2012 in Foundation

When Lady Gaga announced the creation of the Born This Way Foundation back in November 2, 2011, her fans were abuzz with excitement and hope. With a fan base mostly filled with lonely, bullied, resilient teenagers, it’s no wonder Gaga wanted to do something more for them other than singing and dancing on a stage. This organization is supposed to help inspire young people and to somehow prevent bullying.

But how can you prevent something that is so hard to define? Bullying is a very encompassing term that can cover verbal, cyber, and physical abuse. Many say that a little bullying toughens a kid up and the youth today needs a thicker skin. But when kids are committing suicide as a solution to being bullied, something is wrong with our society. However, you cannot ban something that is so broad in definition. How can this organization against bullying succeed, where others haven’t have much progress? For starters, no other anti-bullying organization has a face quite like Gaga’s. She has the brand and the means to get the point across.

So far, Lady Gaga hasn’t given much insight into what the foundation is actually supposed to do but according to the Boston Herald, Gaga and her mother, Cynthia Germanotta, are planning to officially launch the Foundation on February 29th at Harvard’s Sanders Theater. There will be special guests and most importantly, Gaga will shed light on the rather vague idea that created the Foundation. The event will be co-hosted by her partners, Harvard Graduate School of Education and the John D. & Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.

Lady Gaga Talks With The Insider About A New Album And Tour

Posted on 4th January, 2012 in Interviews

Lady Gaga kicked off 2012 on her home turf, taking (or, stealing, rather) the stage on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and helping Mayor Bloomberg drop the iconic ball – two honors that left her humbled.

“I grew up watching [the ball drop] on TV,” she tells The Insider. “But in my 25 years of being a New Yorker I have never ever gone to Times Square to watch the ball drop. If you’re from New York, you know it’s very chaotic. So I’m honored and humbled by them asking me to drop the ball with Mayor Bloomberg. It’s such a dream.”

And from the sound of things, her dreams will continue to come true in 2012.

Gaga is not only blown away by the amount of money raised for her Born This Way Foundation by the Barney’s housed Gaga’s Workshop, but also by the reception her philanthropic endeavors have gotten at the highest level of government. “It’s a series of overarching issues that … have to do with the social policies that are in place, like gay marriage,” she says. “What kind of example we’re setting to youth. The example of equality has to be more linear now, it has to be more black and white.”
In between injecting the populace with a greater understanding of love, Gaga plans to release more new music this year. “I’m looking forward to putting out another album and going on tour,” she says. “I can’t wait to see the fans. I have a million ideas and I just feel very blessed to be an artist who gets to do what she loves.”

And while those plans eventually involve starting a family (“Someday. A long, long day from now,” she giggles), music remains at the forefront of her mind right now. “I wake up in the morning with tears in my eyes and I write new songs and I think about the future. I was born to make music; I was born to see out my artistic visions. That’s what [Born This Way] is all about.”
